BLOG 2, 2018
From the Principal’s desk,
By now you should all be feeling more settled in your school routine. Our students are looking more relaxed as they become familiar with the routines and expectations of their classes. Our new staff have settled into Woodland Grove Primary School and there is a very positive atmosphere about the place.
Attendance
At Woodland Grove Primary School we believe that student well-being is as important as academic achievement. We have a positive approach to behaviour. Students are acknowledged for displaying behaviours that align with our core values; RESPECT, INTEGRITY, COURAGE, INCLUSIVITY.
Parents and caregivers are essential partners in our school’s approach to positive behaviour. As a positive behaviour school we value and promote a welcoming environment for our families.
Students and families who feel comfortable at school will come to school. An important indicator of our welcoming approach is student attendance.
I am pleased to report that our attendance rate for 2017 was 93.8%. This rate is higher than schools like us and higher than all WA Public Schools combined. Teamwork has been the key to our success so far. Congratulations to our school community; students, parents and staff for working together to make our school a welcoming place for all involved. I look forward to continuing to work with our school community to promote a positive environment at Woodland Grove primary School.
Meet the Teacher Meetings
It was a pleasure to see a number of parents and caregivers at our Meet the Teacher meetings. I understand that it is not always easy to attend these meetings. If you would like to catch up with your child’s teacher you can send a message through our website https://woodlandgroveps.wa.edu.au/contact-us/ and your child’s teacher will arrange a suitable
time to meet. Alternatively we have our 3 way Interviews between yourself, the class teacher and your child beginning on 12th March, which is Week 7 this term.
3 Way Interviews are scheduled online and more information about this process will come out shortly. Importantly the 14th and 15th March are half days with school closing at 12.50pm on both days to enable the interviews. If this is a problem for you do not hesitate to contact your relevant Associate Principal; Jen lay (K to Year 1) or Dahmen Higgs (Year 2 to Year 6).
Fogarty Foundation
Our school has been accepted into the Fogarty Foundation. We will receive ongoing support from the foundation over the next 3 years. The aim of our work with Fogarty will be to significantly improve and sustain student achievement at Woodland Grove Primary School. The Woodland Grove Fogarty Team comprises of; myself, Dahmen Higgs, Jen Lay, Meghan McGoldrick, Richard Allen, Christine Bruens and Karen Reinsma. Our aim is to ensure the staff at Woodland Grove are working as a team to maximise student achievement. The Woodland Grove Fogarty Team will be at our first series of workshops on Thursday and Friday next week. Majella Corrigan will be available in the absence of myself and our Associate Principals.
Kindy High Visibility Vests
At Woodland Grove Primary School we make the school grounds available to all students from Kindergarten to Year 6. This year we purchased high visibility vests for our Kindergarten students so they are easily identifiable as they begin to access the main playground next week.
