From the Principal’s Desk
Week 6
As I write todays blog I am sitting at my computer listening to our school. I can hear some children playing and laughing, I can hear the murmur of our front desk and I can hear one of our Associate Principals talking to a child about his school work and I can hear the other tapping at her keyboard. The school has a wonderfully calm and positive vibe. As I reflect on these noises I think about how far we have come and how amazing our school community is. Children learn best when the learning environment is orderly. The learning environment at Woodland Grove is orderly, calm and inviting, and children are learning.
Our recent Reading data was presented to School Board. It shows that children who started at Woodland Grove and have remained at the shool for a number of years have made significant improvement in Reading. For example our current Year 6 students who began with us in Year 2 have moved from being 13.4 scaled scores behind the median of all Australian students who completed the test to being only 3 scaled scores behind the rest of Australia in Year 5. Our Year 5 students have moved from below the median in Year 1 to above the median in Year 4. These results are phenomenal and testament to the hard work of students, staff and families. Our Reading results are replicated across year levels for children who have remained at Woodland Grove. This is a real cause for celebration. Reading has been a focus area for us and will remain a focus area as it is vital that all students learn to read.
As we look forward at Woodland Grove we will be looking closely at Writing and Mental Computation with a view to building student results.
Our wonderfully supportive Woodland Grove P&C recently held their Annual General Meeting. Congratulations to Ramone who remains President, to Dee who is our Vice President, Amanda who is our Secretary and Francis who is our Treasurer. A BIG thank you to our outgoing Treasurer, Daniel and to Francis as outgoing Secretary.

Our students had a successful day today at the Summer Carnival. Our Cricket team won their competition. Lost of super excited Cricket players. The rest of the teams are yet to return. We will post results early next week.
