Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

What is Positive Behaviour Support?

At Woodland Grove Primary School, we have introduced Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). PBS is an evidence-based approach that is aligned to the Department of Education’s ‘Student Behaviour in Public Schools’ policy. It focuses on teaching skills to promote positive behaviours. As we teach Reading and Maths, it is equally important that we explicitly teach positive behaviour to our students.

What is WGPS Behaviour Expectation Matrix?

Our PBS team have worked closely with students and staff to create a Matrix to define our expected behaviours. This week, the final draft version below has rolled out across all classes and reflects what matters most in our school. At the end of Term 4, we will review the draft matrix with staff and students and adjust if needed.

The ways we celebrate Positive Behaviour.

Our students earn Respect/Inclusivity/Courage/Integrity tokens when they demonstrate the expected behaviours. Each week, the tokens go into a draw and an individual student from our Early Childhood, Junior and Senior Primary are drawn as winners. The winners are rewarded with an icy pole for each student in their class. Each term, the faction with the most tokens earn a faction reward, such as a movie or extra playtime.
