Buddy Bench and lots more…

Week 6 – 10 March, 2017

Good afternoon Woodland Grove families,

TEAM

We have been talking a lot about the value of working as a team. We see our wider community as an integral part of the Woodland Grove team. A team that works together to provide the best education possible for our students. A BIG thank you to Bendigo Bank and the Mens Shed for providing us with our Buddy Bench. Our Buddy Bench is for students to connect on and make friends. It is a place to go if you are looking for a buddy., making the playground a better place to be.

Parent – Teacher – Student – 3 Way Interviews

Parent teacher interviews will be held next week. In most cases teachers will conduct a 3 way interview with students present as well. This allows everyone involved to understand the goals set for learning and encourages our students to be responsible for their learning.

All families should have received information about how to book interviews online. Please do not hesitate to call the front office if you are having trouble.

Our school is closed for 2 half days next week – Wednesday 15 March and Thursday 16 March. School will close at 12.50pm on these days.

If you are having trouble organising care for your children please let the front office know as we have some teachers available to supervise children in the afternoon.

Assemblies

We had our first Whole School Performance Assembly yesterday. Well done to Clydesdale 2, Brumby 3 and Thoroughbred 1 for putting on a wonderful performance “Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines” and launching our theme for the semester – FESTIVAL OF FLIGHT.

Our Performance Assemblies will run twice a term and are for our whole school community to enjoy. Our Honour Certificates are awarded at these assemblies with a student from each classroom block nominated. Our specialist teachers provide an award to a deserving class at this assembly. Our next Performance Assembly is scheduled for Thursday 6 April at 2pm.

We also have a Junior Assembly (K to Year 2) and a Senior Assembly (Year 3 to Year 6) which occur each week, except Performance Assembly weeks. These assemblies are small and  less formal. They are run by our Associate Principals. Children receive Values Certificates at our weekly assemblies and parents/carers will be informed so they can attend the assembly and share in the accolade.

STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) – Shane Liackman

We’re putting things to another use with STEAM and Makerspace!

Woodland Grove students are becoming prepared for a future which will require new skills. All students can learn to be part of a team and solve real problems with ideas from Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. To make the most of our STEAM Projects and Makerspace we will need community help.

We are asking for donations of recyclable materials. This term we are asking for

  • Clean tins with no sharp edges
  • Clean plastic bottles
  • Clean bottle tops
  • Wood off-cuts.

These materials can be used for STEAM Projects and our lunchtime Makerspace. Students can exchange these materials outside the library between 0815 and 0830 at our STEAM Shop in exchange for a Makerspace Ticket. Students with Makerspace Tickets can then use the school Makerspace at lunchtime and create.

Upcoming Events

Book Fair – 20 to 24 march in the Library
Pirate Dress Up Day – Gold Coin Donation for Library Books – Friday 24 March
Easter Bonnet Parade & Raffle followed by Coffee – Friday 7 April, 8.30am, The Arena

Please recycle these things at home and send them to school so our students can benefit.

Enjoy your weekend.
See you all next week.
