From the Principal’s desk

We are very fortunate at Woodland Grove Primary School to have a very professional and passionate group of educators working here. All our teachers are committed to making sure that every child has the opportunity to be successful. Recently two of our staff members were recognised for excellence in their respective fields. Congratulations to Mrs Andrea Gadd for her successful entries in the recent Kelmscott Art Show and to Mr Clayton Bird for his recognition as the South Fremantle District Primary School Ambassador of the Year. The children of Woodland Grove have some wonderful role models with these two teachers.

Kelmscott Art Show
Our wonderful Art Teacher Mrs Andrea Gadd, entered her personal oil & Acrylic paintings into the Kelmscott Art Show.
The first photo is a Drift Wood landscape which Andrea painted from a photo from New Zealand which Andrea received First Place in.
The second place photo is some fungi growing on a tree in her friends garden which Andrea received Second Place in. Well done Andrea on your fantastic art work, you are well deserved of winning and our students are WGPS are so lucky to have you as their Art Teacher.

SF District Primary School AFL Ambassador of the Year
Mr Bird won a prestigious award at the South Fremantle District Presentation Night on Saturday

night at the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle. The award was for the South Fremantle District Primary School Ambassador of the Year Award for 2018.

Mr Bird has established an early presence for football at Woodland Grove PS since the school opened in 2017 and has registered for all WAFC School Competitions for 2018. Mr Bird has promoted Female Football by entering all-girls teams in our all-girls carnivals, and is always keen to have SF District staff come out to run school football clinics at WGPS. He has promoted the local junior football club (Mundijong Centrals JFC) via the Play AFL campaign during Term 1, and always continues to push for an Eagles Cup division in the Byford region.

The West Australian Football Commission district contains 74 primary schools and roughly the same amount of AFL School Ambassadors, so big Congratulations to Mr Bird for his achievement.

Getting to School
Today (Friday 26th October) our Year 1 – 6 students were surveyed on their mode of transport to Woodland Grove PS.
There were 4 options;
Option 1: rode a bike, scooter or skated
Option 2: Caught the bus or train
Option 3: Walked to school
Option 4: came in a car.

Results
317 students surveyed
* 53% Car
* 24% bike / scooter
* 23% walk
In March 2018 the same survey was conducted. Below are the behaviour changes;

* 4% increase in driving
* 5% decrease in walking
* 3% decrease in cycling
These results show that we need to celebrate the fun of riding, walking, scooting and skating to school and the need to inspire even more students to get active.
