Term 3
A warm welcome back to school and to TERM 3. It is wonderful to see familiar faces and also some new faces around the school too.
Walker Learning Mentoring
At Woodland Grove Primary School we are committed to providing our children with an engaging learning environment. As we embed our approaches to teaching and learning we know that it is vitally important for our Kindy and Pre Primary children to have plenty of opportunity to play. The play they are engaged in needs to have rigorous and intentional teaching behind it. Our Kindy and Pre Primary classes have child centred investigations set up for children to be engaged in these rich learning experiences. Kindy and Pre Primary children engage in the investigations
for different periods of time with Kindy spending more school time on investigations than Pre Primary which is developmentally appropriate. Parents are welcome to visit classes to see the investigations
We have had Jan Snowden from Walker Learning at our school for the past 3 days. Jan has been observing Kindy and Pre Primary classes in action. She is providing our school with feedback on our progress with implementing a rigorous play based approach to learning. Jan has commended our teachers and their professionalism. She was impressed with our progress and provided us with recommendations to continue our journey.
NAIDOC Week
Next week is NAIDCO week, there will be an assembly on Monday morning in The Arena at 8:30am for PP to Year 6 children. Kindy children will not attend this assembly as they have a session from Better Beginnings during this time. At our NAIDOC assembly we will have Marie Taylor, a local Aboriginal Elder in attendance. Marie will present Welcome to Country and tell our
children a story from the Dreamtime. Our week will continue with learning experiences focussed on deepening children’s appreciation of Aboriginal culture. Parents and caregivers are welcome to attend our NAIDOC Week assembly. More about our week will be included in next week’s blog.
Please come and see our children’s art work in the front office.
Canteen
The school canteen opened on Thursday and it was a great success. It was fantastic to see the children lining up to purchase something yummy and healthy. The canteen will be open on Tuesday and Thursday for recess and lunch. For children wanting to order their lunch, orders need to be into the canteen by 9am. If you would like to help out, please see Sally in the canteen. There are copies of the menu in the front office.
