From the Principal’s Desk

We have had very wild and wooly weather over the past couple of weeks. It has been wonderful to see our very resilient students, teachers and education assistants making their way to swimming lessons despite the conditions.
It has me reflecting on our growth mindset and focus on wellbeing at Woodland Grove. We know that students are able to learn more effectively if their social and emotional wellbeing is catered for. In the same way our staff are able to do their job more effectively if their wellbeing is considered. Our School Development Day on Monday 19th July was dedicated to staff wellbeing with staff working on mindfulness meditation techniques to build their wellbeing.  Regular practice of mindfulness meditation has the following benefits:

  • Lower heart rate
  • Reducing stress
  • Improved immunity, and
  • Better sleep.

Staffing

You may have noticed some staff changes at our school this term.
Firstly a big welcome to Mr Haley our new Associate Principal Years 3 to 6. Mr Haley comes to us with a wealth of experience and expertise. He was previously Principal of Nunagarin Primary School and before that worked at South Padbury Primary School, Carnarvon Community College and the Kimberley. Mr Haley brings energy to our school and is known for his capacity to build strong relationships with children, families and staff. He also has a passion for Literacy education. Mr Haley’s spare time is taken up with renovating and spending time with his partner and two small children. Mr Haley also loves skateboarding.

Year One has two new teachers for the price of one. A warm welcome to Ms Lethbridge and Mrs Riley who are working in Mrs Reinsma’s class. Ms Lethbridge Monday to Thursday and Mrs Riley on Fridays. Both teachers are very familiar with our school as they have worked here in a relief capacity.

Welcome back to Ms Bean. Ms Bean was previously a class teacher. She has come back to us as our specialist Indonesian teacher. We are very fortunate to have a teacher of Ms Bean’s calibre teaching Indonesian at Woodland Grove three days a week. The Indonesian program is for Years 3 to 6.

Lastly big Woodland Grove welcome to Mrs Dennison. Mrs Dennison is our newest Education Assistant and is working in Kindergarten and Year One for two days a week. Mrs Dennison is an experienced Education Assistant who brings an exceptional skill set to Woodland Grove.

Our staff at Woodland Grove are professional and dedicated to the students of Woodland Grove. I am sure our community will join me in welcoming all our staff back to Term 3.
